OHNG City

1. overview

Melaka (Malacca) known as 'The Historic State'. It had been colonised by Portuguese, Dutch, British and Japanese before Malaysia became independent. Therefore, Melaka has a great diversity of races and ethnicities. This project is designed for kids and young adults to learn the tradition & culture of Baba Nyonya through experiencing the space. 'Ohng' means 'Good Luck' in Baba Nyonya.

The idea is to create an experimental space for kids to explore this beautiful culture.

2. concept

Baba Nyonya (or Peranakan Community) was one of the major ethnic groups. It was once a culturally rich religion, however, the community faced widespread destruction. The population decreased rapidly and the language and culture faded. Although there are some Baba Nyonya museums around Melaka, it still didn't catch too much attention. Therefore, the idea is to create an experimental space for kids to explore this beautiful culture.

The space is divided into 9 events for 4 different ages group (from 3-5 years old to 13-15 years old). They will experience activities in a form of 'treasure hunt' by themselves throughout the spaces - from buying tickets at the entrance, passing through the right tunnel, getting hints from one stop to another. However, these will only apply to kids above 6 years old.
